Orchid plants

Orchid plants are not terribly prone to diseases and pests – all in all, the orchid plant is rather hardy. Of course, this is true only if it has the right growing conditions. If you do not properly care for your orchid plant, you might run into some problems. In other words, you need to make sure that you keep the ventilation, temperature, humidity, and light levels at the right level for the particular orchid plant that you are trying to grow.

Some basic tips for keeping your orchid plant alive and well is to eliminate standing water around the roots or on the leaves – bacteria and fungi could attack the plant in such conditions, and the roots could rot. Even if you keep your orchid plant in all the right conditions, mealy worms, spider mites, and scale may still be attracted to it – spray it monthly with an insecticide. You can also “wash” your orchid plant with a soft and soapy cloth.
