Potted orchids

Potted orchids require an adequate amount of light. If they get this, they will thrive. If they do not get it, they will wither and die.

You must be able to learn to tell if your potted orchids are getting enough light. One of the best ways to tell this is by leaf color. Generally speaking, leaves should be bright green rather than darker green. When you see dark green, this indicates there is not enough light. On the other hand, if you see a reddish green, this means there is too much light.

Orchids that require higher levels of light should be placed in a south or west-facing window. But it is important to protect the leaves from the mid-day sun by moving the plants back a bit or using a sheer curtain as a protection screen.

Potted orchids that require less light should be moved farther away from windows. If this is not an option, place them in windows that face east or north.

Because all potted orchids are different, there is no hard and fast rule when it comes to caring for them. You need to make sure that you read up and learn how to care for them best.
