Wild orchids
Wild orchids are extremely
beautiful and fun to find. While there are some people that prefer to
grow their own orchids at home, there are others who prefer to go out
and photograph wild orchids. Unfortunately, wild orchids are becoming
less and less common. In fact, we are losing many different species
of wild orchids as deforestation continues.
Some say, however, that it is not just deforestation that is killing
wild orchids – it is those of us who go out looking for them,
too! It seems odd to think that someone who loves wild orchids enough
to go out and look for them to take that perfect photograph could actually
damage them. It is not like they are going out there and picking wild
orchids! The problem, however, is that we compact soil that should be
loose, making it difficult for the seedlings of wild orchids to grow.
Wild orchids are very picky about their growing conditions, and having
a bunch of people surrounding the wild orchids and packing down the
dirt does not help at all.
